Second time in a week a threat forces a Hamilton school to lock its doors & keep students inside

Students at Glendale Secondary school say they were shocked to learn today that a fellow student threatened to shoot up the school. Hamilton police investigated over the weekend and say there was no intent behind the threat made on Friday and that it was a joke gone wrong.
Around 4 o’clock Friday afternoon police learned about a note threatening the school. The school day had come to an end and approximately 20 students were inside when staff were asked to lock all of the exterior doors.
“We didn’t find that the note had any intent with regard to any threats of violence to the school.” Lorraine Edwards, Hamilton police.
But Hamilton police say they take these situations seriously and they are taking this time to educate students on their decisions.
Last Monday, 5 minutes down the road at Elizabeth Bagshaw elementary, parents alleged a student wrote a list of names they planned to kill. The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board confirmed the threats targeted students and they continue their investigation. In both cases the board posted a statement that reads in part: “There was no concern for students and staff safety.”
Police say the student at Glendale made a bad choice and will face the consequences including a suspension and educational programs with the youth criminal justice act.
