Sears Canada cutting 2,900 jobs in restructuring plan

Sears Canada Inc. plans to close 59 locations and cut approximately 2,900 jobs as part of its restructuring plan.
The company announced it will be closing of 20 full-line locations, 15 “Sears Home” Stores, 10 “Sears Outlet” and 14 “Sears Hometown” locations.
The Sears Home store in Ancaster is set to close s as well stores in Brockville, Sault Ste. Marie, Orangeville, Timmins, Cambridge, Chatham, Cornwall, Orillia, Windsor, Sudbury, Ottawa East, Kingston, Scarborough, London, and Woodbridge.
Sears Canada announced last week that there was “significant doubt” regarding the company’s ability to continue and said they had begun exploring strategic alternatives, including the sale of the company.
The retailer was granted an initial order from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act Thursday.
