Hamilton Police brought ATV’s, their mounted unit and dozens of officers to walk through the land in Flamborough, where 26-year-old Nuseiba Hasan was last seen in 2006. Police believe Hasan’s remains are somewhere on the 55-acre property.
“She’s been missing for 9-10 years now, so what we are looking for is evidence, and maybe a gravesite.”
Detectives say the farm was owned by Hasan’s family at the time of her disappearance . It was sold this year and the new owner took possession just two weeks ago.
As they combed through the farm, Hamilton Police brought along a forensic archaeologist to analyze ground patterns. It is the same expert that helped discover human remains on serial killer Robert Pickton’s farm.
Hasan’s family is scattered between Canada and Jordan. Her father died four years ago and her mother is overseas. Police are speaking with other family members.
“Some of them are a bit more cooperative than others.”
A neighbour who lives across the road says the family kept to themselves, but remembers seeing heavy machinery on their property a few years ago.
“There was heavy equipment back there at one time, they used to do a lot of digging the person who owned the place or owned the equipment.”
The search team spent the entire day identifying suspicious looking areas and tomorrow police will bring an excavator to the scene to go through any mounds of dirt or land that appears to be unusual. The OPP will also be on scene with cadaver dogs, and drones to fly over the area.
