Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continued search efforts on Monday for a missing 10-year-old girl who was last seen at a river near Mitchell, Ont.

The girl was reported missing around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Stratford, St. Marys, and Huron Area Search and Rescue Swift Water Rescue teams were called in to assist with the search. They worked alongside the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team, canine unit, underwater search and rescue, and aviation team members.

On Monday, OPP said conditions along the water edges were deteriorating and the public was still asked to stay away from the fast-moving water.

“While a number of citizens have offered to assist in the search, the area of the river is not safe, and could hinder the rescue efforts,” said OPP in a news release.

The Perth East and West Perth fire departments thanked the community for its support and said they would be back out again on Tuesday to continue search efforts.
