Sea of orange fills Hagersville for ‘Every Child Matters Walk’

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation saw celebrations across the country, including the “Every Child Matter Walk” organized by Indigenous leaders in Hagersville.
The walk held began at the location of a former day school, went past the sacred fire, and finished at the pow wow grounds in the community.
Participants gathered for music, bouncy castles, kids activities, and a turkey dinner.
It was a walk to remember those who were forced into the residential and day school system who are no longer here, honour those who survived, and recognize the ongoing effects on the generations that followed.
The event served as a place to reclaim the traditions that have been stolen from Indigenous communities across the country since colonization first began.
Those in attendance came together to celebrate the growth and reclamation of what was once stripped away in a place filled with love and support for the experiences held by all affected by continuous attempts of colonization.
A second event will be held by the Indigenous community in Hagersville on Wednesday in honour of the growing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women in the country on the National Day for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
