Scooter driver dead after 3-vehicle Oakville crash: police

Police say a scooter driver has died following a three-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon in Oakville.

Officers responded shortly after 1:30 p.m. to Lakeshore Rd. West between Third Line and Solingate Dr. for reports of a crash.

Lakeshore Road West in Oakville is closed in both directions between Third Line and Solingate Drive for a collision investigation.

Police say a westbound Vespa scooter and an eastbound Nissan Rogue SUV collided head-on. A third vehicle was also damaged in the crash.

The 58-year-old driver of the Vespa scooter was transported to hospital, where he later succumbed to his life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue was arrested by police.

Christian Cardinal, 25, of Burlington is charged with the dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death as well as impaired operation of a conveyance causing death.

Lakeshore Rd. West was closed between Third Line and Solingate Dr. for several hours while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.
