School’s out for St. Brigid’s Catholic Elementary

Students at St. Brigid’s Catholic Elementary were excited to welcome summer today.
There were tears and lots of cheers.
Many saying farewell, as St. Brigid’s closes its doors, ending 97 years of history in the Central city.
School principal Adrienne Coletto says it’s a new chapter.
Corrado ciapanna and his family immigrated to Canada from Italy. He was a student at St. Brigid’s in the 60’s. He progressed with honours according to his report card. He later returned as principal and is now superintendent of education.
A bitter sweet day at St. Brigid’s, nearly a hundred years of history coming to an end but the school will reopen in September as St. Patrick’s.
It means the school will double in size, St. Patrick students will move into St. Brigid’s. St. Patrick’s will be torn down and a new school will eventually be built to house all 400 students.
The school will reopen as St. Patrick Catholic Elementary at it’s current St. Brigids location in September.
The new school will be built over the next two years.
