Sarachman civil suit starts
A former Hamilton councillor has told a civil trial she found a colleague’s controversial e-mail ”inflammatory, unhelpful and litigious”.
Margaret McCarthy made the remark Tuesday on the opening day of Roman Sarachman’s defamation case against councillor Terry Whitehead.
The 700-thousand dollar lawsuit stems from Whitehead’s decision to spearhead council’s decision to funnel slots tax revenue from Flamboro Downs away from Flamborough and into general city coffers three years ago.
Sarachman sent city councillors an e-mail protesting the move on behalf of a concerned citizens group.
Whitehead responded and copied all councillors.
McCarthy testified Whitehead’s e-mail was ”wrong on every level”.
