Firefighters were at the scene of a blaze in central Hamilton Wednesday.

Multiple trucks were called to a Sanford Avenue home just south of Main Street, shortly after 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. When the fire department arrived, they say the home was fully engulfed in the back of the home – all three floors. Two people were inside but they both got out safely. Neigbours on both sides of the home were evacuated.

At one point, firefights were pulled out of the home because there were fears the ceiling would collapse.

Flames and smoke could be seen from the escarpment and many other parts of the city.

Officials say it is too early to determine the cause of the fire or and estimate on damages.
