Sam Roberts becoming more comfortable with legacy

They’ve been rocking their way around the world for months, and earlier tonight the Sam Roberts Band tour touched down in Hamilton.

The band has been to Europe and the United States to promote their latest album, Lo-fantasy.

CHCH News caught up with Roberts at Hamilton Place this afternoon. Now 5 albums in, Roberts says he is now only starting to feel comfortable with having a deep body of work, and reflected on the band’s ongoing move away from indie rock.

Yeah and I don’t want to know what a Sam Roberts Band song is either. I don’t want to know that in the slightest, I feel like that’s an open-ended conversation, that it has the opportunity to be or become anything really.”

“I think you’re talking about Chemical City, a record we put out in 2006 or 2005 and I think with that record we made a statement, not just to people out there but to ourselves. That we were never gonna be pigeonholed into being one kind of band and from that point on I think we just kind of took some kind of confidence or courage that we could go out there and make the kind of record that worked, that was moving to us, and hopefully there would be other people who would come along with us for the ride.”

The band hits the stage at Hamilton Place tonight at 8 pm.
