Salt Shortage

After last week’s deep freeze across Southern Ontario – it appears salt and ice melt are in short supply. The shortage has some driveways and sidewalks looking more like ice rinks.

Big box stores are having a tough time keeping salt and ice melt on their shelves but municipalities like Hamilton and St.Catharines say they’re not facing any salt shortages for city roads.

In most cities homeowners who don’t clear the snow and ice off the sidewalk could be ticketed or fined.
