Russia’s parliament has granted President Vladimir Putin permission to use the Russian military in Ukraine.

Troops have been arriving by plane and helicopter in Ukraine’s Crimea region.

Ukraine’s ambassador is calling on security council members to stop Putin from taking further action.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper called a special cabinet meeting to discuss recent developments in Ukraine. The Department of Foreign Affairs is advising against travel to the region and says Canadians already there should consider leaving “while it is safe to do so.”
