Russell parkette

A Toronto police officer killed earlier this year received a special honour Friday.

Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair has re-named a downtown parkette “The Sergeant Ryan Russell Park.”

Several people attended the afternoon ceremonial sign unveiling including Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and Russell’s father and widow.

The 35 year old officer was killed January 12th trying to stop a stolen snowplow.

A 44 year old St. Catharines man is charged with first-degree murder in his death.
