The man behind Fox News – 92-year-old Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch – is stepping down as chairman of Fox Corp. and News Corp., telling employees it’s time for him to take on a different role.

A giant in the news realm, Murdoch is responsible for hundreds of local, national, and international publishing outlets around the world, and was the first to successfully challenge the big three of American TV networks: ABC, CBS, and NBC.

Since then, Fox News has profoundly influenced television and U.S. politics, making Murdoch a hero to some and a pariah to others.
