Rosslyn Retirement Home appeals licence revocation

The owners of the Rosslyn Retirement Residence are appealing the decision to revoke their operating licence.

The Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority revoked Rosslyn’s licence earlier this month, following a deadly outbreak of COVID-19.

The home was evacuated in May, after 64 residents and 22 staff members were infected with the virus.

Residents have not been allowed to return since then.

“By filing its appeal, Rosslyn wants its community to learn what occurred at its home, and the steps it took to safeguard its residents from harm,” the owners of Rosslyn said a statement.

The appeal says the Registrar made “serious errors” when making the revocation decision.

A report by provincial inspectors cites a failure to comply with regulations around drug storage, pests and plans of care for residents.

The city of Hamilton has also revoked the home’s business licence.

The facility is owned by the Martino family, which owns several other retirement homes in the city.
