Updated Sad news today with the word that Ron Lancaster Jr has died.

He passed away last night at his Hamilton apartment. He was 49 years old. He reportedly had been experiencing some health problems and was on a leave of absence from his teaching job at MacNab Secondary School.

Ron Jr was the son of the legendary Canadian Football Hall of Famer, Ron Sr. Ron Jr didn’t play in the CFL like his father; but like his dad, he coached. That was his niche.

At the age of 23 he was an assistant coach on Bernie Custis’ McMaster Marauders staff. He coached at U of T and Acadia and also worked as an assistant coach in the CFL for the Tiger-Cats, Eskimos, Argos and Blue Bombers. He was the offensive coordinator for the 1999 Grey Cup champion Ticats, one of his 3 Grey Cups.

After his time in the CFL, Ron devoted himself to teaching and coaching in high school at Westdale and MacNab.

Our condolences to Ron’s family, Paula and their children Brittany and Brie-Ann.
