Hundreds of runners laced-up today for part one of the Road2Hope race weekend.

The two-day event raises thousands of dollars for charities both in Haiti and here in Hamilton, including CityKidz.

The one, five, and 10 km races were held today. The path took runners through Confederation Park in Hamilton. All participants were given a medal after they crossed the finish line.

The fastest time in the 10 km race was an impressive 31:42. Whether participants were running competitively or just for fun, the day was clearly a success for everyone.

“The turnout is great,” said co-organizer and Hamilton Ward 7 councilor Esther Pauls. “Every year we are growing. Charities are coming saying this is a great event. It’s a family event. It’s wonderful.”

Pauls says over 2,500 people took part in today’s races. The half and full marathon will be run tomorrow.
