Road closures to impact Niagara Falls on New Year’s Eve

Niagara Parks, in partnership with the City of Niagara Falls, will implement planned road closures across key tourism areas near the Falls for public access and safety on New Year’s Eve.

Fireworks displays over the Falls are scheduled for 8 p.m. and midnight of Dec. 31, and the city is guaranteed to be busy.

Road closures

The Niagara Parkway between Clifton Hill and Fraser Hill will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 7 p.m., with a full road closure by 8 p.m. Clifton Hill will also be closed to cars and motorbikes from Victoria Avenue to Falls Avenue.

Murray Street, from the Niagara Parkway to Warren Avenue (Skylon Driveway), will be closed from 7 p.m., with the full closure of the road from Skylon Driveway to Fallsview Boulevard from 10 p.m.

The City of Niagara says says that all road closures will be at the discretion of the Niagara Parks and Niagara police services and timing may be adjusted as required. In the event of inclement weather or lower-than-anticipated visitation levels, closures may be modified or cancelled.

“By closing these roadways to vehicular traffic, pedestrians will have smoother and safer access throughout the core tourism area during holiday celebrations that typically bring higher visitation to Niagara Falls,” it adds.

Parking and Transportation

All Niagara Parks operations, including parking lots and WEGO bus services, will run as usual on New Year’s Eve. However, guests should anticipate potential service delays or disruptions on routes through the tourist area.

People driving to Niagara Falls are encouraged to take advantage of the parking lots in the area. Niagara Parks’ Rapidsview Parking Lot offers $10 parking and a shuttle service to and from Table Rock Centre.

The Falls Incline Railway — which connects the Fallsview tourist area and Table Rock Centre — will operate until 1 a.m. to assist guests travelling to Queen Victoria Park for the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
