Ride is a drama written and directed by Helen Hunt, her second directorial effort after Then She Found Me in 2007. Hunt also stars in the film opposite Brenton Thwaites, Luke Wilson, and David Zayas.
In RIDE, Helen Hunt plays Jackie, an editor from The New Yorker who follows her son (Brenton Thwaites, ‘The Giver’, ‘Maleficent’) to LA after he drops out of college to surf and Jackie suddenly becomes the one thrust into a sea change of self-discovery. In this comedy written and directed by Helen Hunt, Jackie rediscovers her sexuality with a younger surf instructor (Luke Wilson, ‘Old School’, ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’), strikes up a meaningful friendship with limo driver, Ramon (David Zayas, TV’s Dexter), and begins to heal her fractured relationship with her son.
Along with her writing, directing, and starring roles, Hunt did all of her own surfing. It was on a trip to Hawaii that Hunt had the inspiration for the film. There she saw a woman nearby nursing her baby in-between surfing sessions on the water. “I made this movie for mothers, sons, fathers, daughters, surfers and people who fall apart and come back together,” says Hunt. “There’s a lot in this movie that is me.”
