Ribfest draws to a close

We’re just hours away from the morning bell. School starts tomorrow. And for many that means saying so long to summer vacation. In Burlington, the traditional ending to summer is Ribfest, and while it wrapped up tonight, the fundraising efforts for Burlington flood relief.

It may be the unofficial end to the summer-but things are heating up.

“It’s been like this all day. The fans, the people, the folks just been amazing. (Are you having a good time?) A great time. Big daddy loves coming up here to Canada.

But all good things must come to an end.

“Ya, going back to school, not much else to do but it’s a real good way to end the summer.”

“School, school, school. (Are you looking forward to it?) Yes and no. I would rather be hanging out at the park but I’m excited to go back to school.”

Over 175 thousand people took in Canada ‘s largest Ribfest this year. It’s put on by the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore and keeping with tradition, it’s all about giving back to the community.

Zamal Whyte, Rotary Club: “The money that we raised this year was really for the flood victims, the flood relief program. That’s happening here in Burlington, so what we did was all four clubs came together and we have strategically placed people around to collect donations.”

The donations haven’t been counted just yet, but they are expecting tens of thousands of dollars for the flood victims. A community giving back, all while having a good time.

And this was the 19th annual Ribfest here in Burlington. Next year for the 20th, they have some special things planned, like using more of the waterfront. Maybe we will see fireworks and an air show.
