Retirement home residents concerned as The Carlisle closes

A Hamilton non-profit that supports people experiencing poverty, homelessness and other barriers, is moving to a larger site.
The Wesley Urban Centre says the move is to help meet the growing needs of refugees and people arriving in Canada, specifically in the Hamilton, Halton, and Brantford areas.
The move to the larger site at 467 Main St. East is where The Carlisle Retirement Residence currently is.
The home says it will be closing its doors, likely by next winter, but will stay open until a new placement is found for every resident.

“To support the residents, we have a team of people who will assist in their transition, providing guidance and support, to ensure everyone finds a new home that meets their needs,” said Director of Regional Operations Julie Curtis.
A number of viewers have written in to CHCH News saying family members were only notified of the closure last night.
Several have said their family members living in the home are distressed at the idea of moving suddenly, and are worried they’ll be moved further away from loved ones.
Wesley is currently located at 52 Catharine St. North and announced it would be closing its day centre back in October.
Last year alone, Wesley helped over a thousand people settle into the Hamilton, Halton, and Brantford areas, including 650 government-assisted refugees from Afghanistan, Syria, and other parts of the world, as well as 350 Ukrainian refugees.
