Many Moncton residents left the city amid the chaos earlier and they touched down at Pearson airport late Thursday afternoon. Some of them are very concerned about friends and family back home.

We spoke with some people who were travelling from Moncton to Toronto. One man was Skyping a friend when he started receiving live updates through Facebook statuses. Through social media, many people actually knew what the situation was before major media networks as well as police started giving details

“It was scary. Everybody was telling each other ‘be careful, this is where we think he is’. So everyone was really good on social media.”

“We certainly hope the person will be found and brought to justice and very sorry for the families involved for sure.”

“Our daughter, son in law and two grandchildren live there and they’re very nervous about being locked up in their houses and everybody’s very, very worried and upset.”

“Well, my wife is over there. I have some friends too so I hope everything is going to be ok. I hope that they capture the killer.”

All the people we spoke with are either from Moncton or the area surrounding Moncton. They all told me that they were shocked that this could happen in what they say is a peaceful and quiet city.
