Residents unable to return home after a fire in Hamilton
Hamilton firefighters responded to a call after a home went up in flames in the city’s east end.
Officers were called to the scene on Cloverdale Avenue just before 11 this morning. The fire started on the first floor and spread to the second.
A woman was home at the time and evacuated before police arrived. She was not hurt and was cleared by the Red Cross on scene.
Firefighters on scene were able to extinguish the fire after about an hour. They say there is extensive damage to the home, making it uninhabitable at the moment.
A cause has not yet been determined, but the platoon chief says the fire is not suspicious.
neighbours say they were shocked to see the smoke in such a quiet part of the city. While they didn’t know the woman who lived there personally, they say people in the area are always friendly.
