Residents in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and Hamilton reported shaking after an earthquake magnitude of 4.2 hits Buffalo, N.Y.

Earthquakes Canada says the shock wave started six kilometres east of Buffalo, N.Y. but it was still felt 97 kilometres east southeast in Hamilton.

The earthquake happened just after 6 a.m. this morning.

The organization says there are no reports of damage, and none would be expected for a quake of this magnitude.

While it was much less powerful than what happened in Turkey this morning, people in St. Catharines and Hamilton say they felt something.

Most said it felt like a train was passing by and there was a small shaking for a few seconds.
