Residents at a Chippawa seniors home received some unexpected visitors today, five miniature ponies joined them in the backyard. All of these horses were headed to slaughter before being rescued by the Last Chance Horse & Pony rescue and sanctuary in
Chrystal Beach.

The miniature ponies have been turned in to therapy horses for seniors.

Back at the crystal beach farm there are 34 horses rescued from the slaughter house. Keeping them is expensive says Sharron Allen. “Astronomical…astronomical….horses are expensive. It’s very, very costly every year.”

$140,000 to feed and care for 34 horses last year. This Sunday Last Chance Horse and Pony rescue is holding its annual fundraiser.
