Rescued baby still in hospital

A 15 month old child is still in hospital, after firefighters rescued him from a house fire yesterday.

The blaze was on Bay St North in Hamilton at around noon. The baby was home alone at the time, and was found in a front bedroom by firefighters.

He suffered smoke inhalation, but is said to be in stable condition.

The fire started in a storage area at the back of the home, and is not considered suspicious.

The child abuse branch of Hamilton Police has taken over the investigation, and is working with the Children’s Aid Society. So far there’s no word on any charges.
