Rescue officers honoured
A few Hamilton police officers were presented with an award for rescuing a group of student rowers from Hamilton Harbour last April.
The rowers were out on the water practicing early in the morning when the winds picked up quickly, gusting to 90 km an hour. None of the rowers was wearing life jackets, and the water was a chilly four degrees celsius at the time.
The officers were awarded with the Canadian Safe Boating Council’s “Rescue of the Year” award at today’s Police Services Board meeting.
