Request to see Brant Pier suit costs

Ontario’s information and privacy commissioner has assigned a mediator in response to an appeal from the Burlington Post to have documents released on the legal costs for the Brant Street Pier.

The Post filed a freedom of information request with the city for the documents in September, but a month later, the city denied them access to 36 related records. There are currently five lawsuits in court related to the pre-2011 construction of the new pier.

The original budget in 2005 was $6.2 million, but by the time the pier opened in June, the price tag had more than doubled to $14.4 million.
