Report criticizes federal emergency preparations

A report by Public Safety Canada paints an unflattering picture of the government’s emergency operations the day a gunman stormed Parliament Hill.

The report says senior emergency officials were not in the government operations centre on October 22nd — the centre that co-ordinates emergency responses for the entire federal government.

In addition, the centre did not have computer technicians on site, and some employees who were in the locked-down building that houses the centre apparently found themselves without food.

Meanwhile, RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson says the remaining 18 seconds of video that Michael Zehaf Bibeau recorded before his rampage will be released very soon.

Bibeau was killed inside the Hall of Honour in Parliament’s Centre Block after shooting Corporal Nathan Cirillo dead as he guarded the National War Memorial.
