Renaming Ryerson Park

The city of Burlington is one step closer to renaming Ryerson park.

The park was originally named after Egergon Ryerson for his contributions to provincial education system, but he was also instrumental in the design of Canada’s residential school system.

The city says it decided to rename the park out of respect for Indigenous residents, following the recent discovery of unmarked graves at former residential schools.

Burlington residents submitted more than 500 suggestions this summer, it has been whittled down to four names: Head of Lake park, Unity park, Truth and Reconciliation park, Sweetgrass park.

Voting is now open until November 19th: getinvolvedburlington.ca/renamethispark
