The funeral for one of the last surviving Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Veterans in the battle of Dieppe was held today. Jack McFarland died last Monday at the age of 95.

Jack McFarland is being remembered by not only family and friends but by soldiers and police. McFarland was a prisoner of war following the Dieppe raid during WWII. One of his fellow RHLI Veterans, Ken Curry arrived from Vancouver for today’s service. The North Wall Riders Association organized a Go Fund Me page to bring Curry to Hamilton to say goodbye to his friend.

“We were both in the prison camp together and we went through horrible conditions. He was lucky enough to get repatriated with a prisoners exchange after two years I went the full load, 3 years.”

Jack McFarland will be remembered as so much more than a Dieppe Veteran and POW, he will be remembered as a caring father and doting grandfather, the two roles he was most proud of.
