Refugees start school

It’s a big day for these four students today, they’re excited and maybe a little nervous, for their first day of high school in Canada.
“We are very happy that we get to learn and so excited the school is already so beautiful and big the teachers so welcoming.”
These Syrian refugees are from two families who arrived in Milton last month. They came from a refugee camp in Egypt but say the classes they went to there were packed with other refugees.
The Syrian city they lived in has been almost completely destroyed by the ongoing conflict. Their parents say they’re relived their children are now safe in Canada.
Since December the Halton District school board has welcomed a dozen Syrian students and another 13 are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
