Red Hill Valley Parkway settlement

It’s taken 11 years and has cost taxpayers 6 million dollars but on Wednesday, the City of Hamilton announced it’s dropping a lawsuit against the Federal Government over the controversial Red Hill Valley Parkway.
The 75 million dollar lawsuit was launched in 2004 back when Larry Di Ianni was Mayor.
It claimed the Federal Government acted in bad faith by using the Environmental Assessment Act to delay construction of the then controversial parkway.
It also identified former Hamilton East Liberal MP Sheila Copps as behind the attempt to stop it from being built.
11 years later, the city has now dropped its lawsuit- with the agreement it won’t have to cover the federal legal bill.
The city won’t say if dropping the lawsuit meant it was a bad idea in the first place but rather just it’s time to move on.
