MPP Donna Skelly and the mayor of Hamilton have both called for a review of what happened with the Red Hill Valley Parkway report.

NDP leader Andrea Horwath is also calling for answers about the friction report from 2013 that was only recently brought to city council’s attention. Horwath is calling for a judicial inquiry into how the report got buried and how safety concerns were dealt with.

Last week city council was told that staff had uncovered a report from 2013 that found the Red Hill did not have acceptable levels of friction, it was too slippery. Council had already been calling for studies to determine why so many serious crashes were occurring on that road and had already decided to re-pave the road this spring, which will fix the friction problem.

Horwath wants to see all the reports that have been conducted on the Red Hill and says the ministry of transportation should release any reports it has on the Red Hill.

The city of Hamilton’s auditor is investigating but the Mayor and MPP Donna Skelly are also calling for an independent review.
