Reaction to the leaders’ debate

All of the party leaders were winners in the first election showdown at least according to the leaders themselves.
And while no one set themselves apart from the rest of the pack, McMaster political science professor Henry Jacek thinks Justin Trudeau gained the most.
Conservative leader Stephen Harper appeared to acknowledge the country is in a mild recession.
And when reporters asked him about it, he said “what I said is the following and I have been very clear. 80 percent of the economy is healthy and and growing but we have a contraction in the oil sector that everyone knows is because of low oil prices.”
Harper’s economic record was under attack again today.
“We wanted to show that Stephen Harpers economic plan is not working it’s resulted in the loss of 400 thousand well paid manufacturing jobs.” stated NDP leader Thomas Mulcair.
“We are committed to balanced budget but how long it takes to get there will depend of the size of the mess mr harper has left behind.” said Liberal leader Justin Trudeau.
And while the audience for last night’s debate was small, political science professor Henry Jacek says it’s quality not quantity that’s important.
“These people will now talk to their friends and neighbours in coffee shops, bbqs and family gatherings and tell them what they thought in the debate and by that they will influence a whole bunch of people who weren’t interested in the debate and who didn’t watch it.”
This could have been the only debate with all four leaders. There is another scheduled debate in french but there’s no firm plans for another english one.
The election is still more than 2 months away.
