The Prime Minister’s former Chief of Staff, Nigel Wright is facing new allegations.

Court documents released by the RCMP accuse wright of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. Wright insists he was only thinking of taxpayers when he wrote suspended Senator Mike Duffy a $90-thousand cheque to cover his Senate expense claims. Prime Minister Stephen Harper was grilled in question period Wednesday about his involvement in the scandal. Harper insists that he thought Duffy was repaying the expenses himself.

Tom Mulcair, Leader of the Official Opposition: “The Prime Minister keeps trying to hang his hat, on the detail of the form of that personal assistance, he keeps avoiding the clear question as to whether or not he knew that Nigel Wright had personally assisted Mike Duffy. Can he tell Canadians what he knew?”

Prime Minister Harper: “Mr. Speaker, it is in black and white that I did not know. The RCMP confirms it, Mr. Speaker, unlike the Leader of the Opposition, it didn’t take them 17 years to figure out.”

Wednesday’s released documents are the first time the RCMP has accused Wright of criminal activity.
