The city of Niagara Falls says it has seen a jump in calls from homeowners spotting rats in their neighbourhoods.
Ebarsto Martinez started placing traps in his back yard over a month ago, he’s caught two rats so far and says he checks the traps daily and he’s not the only one dealing with the critters in his neighbourhood. Homeowners on Charnwood Avenue are the latest to get pamphlets from public health about how to keep the critters out. But people on the quiet residential street still aren’t sure why the rats are calling their neighbourhood home.
The region says it’s seen a jump in rat sightings across southern Ontario, not just in the falls. The city of Niagara Falls says it’s been baiting sewer systems and putting out bait boxes. Residents are encouraged to rodent-proof their homes by cover vents and holes and remove any clutter in their yards.
