He broke the news less than 45 minutes after free agency kicked off around 6 p.m.
A source told the Associated Press Lowry had agreed to a three-year deal worth an estimated US$90 million in a sign-and-trade with Toronto that will send veteran point guard Goran Dragic and power forward Precious Achiuwa to the Raptors.
Deals will not be considered official until noon Friday. The Toronto Raptors say they will not be commenting until then.
Lowry is a 15-year NBA veteran and spent the last nine seasons as a Raptor.
Toronto Mayor John Tory put out a statement on Twitter calling Lowry “the greatest Raptor of all time.”
