Raising awareness for refugees

Some university students from Ontario are sleeping outside for a few days to raise awareness about the challenges refugees are facing. Of the many universities participating is Hamilton’s McMaster University.
They are hoping to highlight the dismal conditions Syrian and Iraqi refugees live in. Students will spend 4 days living outside the campus’ student centre.
They are hoping to raise $25 000 to send to refugees displaced by ISIS. The Assyrian Chaldean Syriac student union says the refugees are in need of food and water to survive. To emulate the life of a refugee, these students will only eat food that is donated to them and will have to sleep outside overnight. They’re working to spread the stories of what refugees are going through right now in Syria and Iraq.
“A lot of students are interested to hear what is going on. Many of our volunteers and sleepers for the week have family and friends who are affected by this crisis directly so they’re interested in hearing the stories and things that are happening that they are not seeing.” said Sarah Mamo, from The Assyrian Chaldean Syriac Student Union
According to the United Nations there are 60 million refugees worldwide which is 10 million more than there were during WWII.
