Queen Elizabeth personally met with 3 members of Hamilton’s Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at Buckingham Palace today. It truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity that these men had today, from the Armoury on James street all the way to Buckingham Palace in London.

Honorary Colonel Ron Foxcroft told us that the Queen was quick to praise her soldiers. It’s something that they never would have imagined but today Honorary Colonel Ron Foxcroft, Lt. Colonel Rick Kennedy and Lt. Colonel Lawrence Hadfield spent half an hour with her majesty Queen Elizabeth the second.

The Queen wasted no time in speaking to what matters most. “First thing she said was condolences to the Cirillo family, condolences to the Argyll’s.” Said Foxcroft.

This meeting was prompted by the killing of Corporal Nathan Cirillo last October. The Queen is the Colonel in Chief of the Argyll’s. She told her guests how the killing affected her as she was one of the first in England to know that Cirillo was an Argyll. “She said, the best reservists in the world, the best trained reservists in the world are Canadian.”

Back home, Captain Michael Wonnocott says that the Queen’s words are a source of pride. “I think it just reiterates how deeply the incident on October 22nd affected not just our regiment, not just the City of Hamilton but people all over the world.”

It’s been a big year for the Argyll’s, the death of Corporal Cirillo hit them hard while thrusting the regiment into the spotlight. And just last month they received their 35th battle honour for their work in Afghanistan.

As Colonel in Chief of the Regiment Queen Elizabeth actually refers to the Argyll’s, as her own and in their meeting today Col. Foxcroft said the Queen made them feel at ease, even showing a sense of humour.
