Quebec mayor dies after wasp stings

The mayor of La Prairie, Quebec has died after stepping on a wasp nest at her cottage.

Lucie Roussel was stung multiple times, and pronounced dead a short time later. Reports say she didn’t have any known allergies to wasp stings.

Roussel began her career in politics as a municipal councilor in 1999 before becoming mayor six years later.

La Prairie is home to 24,000 people including many who say they’re shocked and saddened by Roussel’s sudden death.
