Putting the breaks on light rail
The city of Hamilton is halting its light rail transit plans.
City manager Chris Murray has sent a letter to council telling senior staff to suspend all L-R-T activities other than the work which is required by the province.
The Ontario government gave the city three-million dollars to study the proposed L-R-T plan.
That money is set to run out in the next few months, and the city is not planning to pursue any new L-R-T initiatives until they hear from Metrolinx about all-day GO service to Hamilton.
Metrolinx has committed to bringing all-day GO train service to Hamilton, but hasn’t set a timeline or dedicated any funds.
Hamilton mayor Bob Bratina says GO service is the city’s first priority.
