A week-old puppy is safe and sound after getting trapped in a pipe in a drainage ditch in Fort Erie. It took the local SPCA, Niagara Regional Police and the fire department to rescue the tiny beagle-pug cross.

After more than 2 agonizing hours the tiny puggle was reunited with her brothers and sisters. Dog Owner, Lesley Goodison noticed there were only 5 of the little pugs instead of 6 when it was feeding time. She panicked and she frantically searched her home but it was Dooky, the pups mother, who knew exactly where the pint-sized pooch was. “She brought me straight to the drain and she looked into the drain and looked at me and she did a wimpy cry,” says Lesley.

Goodison believes it crawled into the pipe after being left there by its mother who carried the dog outdoors in her mouth. The culvert and Dooky’s doggy door have been closed off. The pup is doing well, she’s the runt of the litter and Goodison believes that’s why Dooky tried to get rid of her. Dooky underwent emergency surgery shortly after giving birth. She was carrying 10 pups but only 6 survived.
