A public meeting was held on Saturday to discuss the plan to build 25 tiny shelters to house homeless people in a strip of park and pavement along Strachan St. in Hamilton.

The meeting was intended to inform residents about the project, which has already been approved by city council, and to answer any questions. It took place at the Bennetto Elementary School at 1 p.m. but people started to line up an hour before.

It was a clear indication that north-end residents want to be heard when it comes to building tiny homes for the homeless.

During the meeting, Councillor Cameron Kroetsch presented the information, emphasizing that the project is moving ahead due to its approval by the council.

While the attendees acknowledged the pressing need for more housing in Hamilton, they expressed their concern that tiny homes in a residential area might not be the ideal solution.

The tiny home or shelter project is a pilot project up to two years long. Another public meeting will be held in September.
