Public helps Oakville humane society replace $32K heating system

The humane society in Oakville and Milton would like to thank the public after their desperate plea to replace one of their HVAC units has been fulfilled and even surpassed.

The manager of animal care, Andrea Barker had previously released a statement saying that the facility needed $32,000 in order to replace one of their commercial HVAC units.

“Technicians have advised us that, after 30 years of service, the machinery can no longer be repaired,” Barker said.

Thanks to members of the community, the humane society’s $32,000 goal has been met and even surpassed, reaching a total of $37,000.

The humane society makes use of the HVAC unit for heating and ventilation, as well as cooling in the summer, and Barker says the impact on their operations is immense.

“We rely 100% on donations to care for the animals and maintain our facilities,” Barker said. “We do our best to stretch equipment and resources to the limit, but now we find ourselves in a crisis.”

And the statement continued by saying that the humane society’s commercial grade washing machine has also stopped working.

The facility makes use of a high-capacity washer that runs almost non-stop and has to deal with large loads, extremely soiled materials, and pet hair.

Staff says any excess funds will be put towards to needs of the animals.
