Protesters block Argyle St. in Caledonia

Dozens of OPP officers conducted a raid Wednesday morning to remove protesters from a Caledonia land development.
Police say several demonstrators were arrested for failing to comply with a court injunction.
The OPP says it was enforcing an injunction by removing demonstrators from the McKenzie Meadows residential development.
The development deal between Losani and Ballantry Homes had been approved and given the green light by the Six Nations of the Grand River elected council.
The protest has moved from the development to Argyle street.
Argyle St. and the Highway 6 bypass is closed in both directions and tire fires have been set.
For many in Caledonia, today’s raid and protest evoked memories of the Six Nations protest against a land development on the nearby Douglas Creek estates in 2006.
