Prosecution presents new photos, wraps case in OPP constable murder trial

Crown prosecutors wrapped up their case Tuesday in the trial of two people charged with murdering OPP Const. Greg Pierzchala.
One of the issues dealt with was the effect of recreational drugs on one of the accused.
Pierzchala, 28, had just passed his probation as an OPP officer when he was gunned down near Hagersville on Dec. 27, 2022.
His bodycam video from that day was played in court.
“I’m just trying to figure out what happened,” Pierzchala said when he arrived at the scene of an apparent accident.
Pierzchala had stopped to help a car at the side of the road when he was shot six times.
Later that day, police surveillance video shows a suspect throwing away a gun and being arrested.
“Towards you, he is just entering a field. I can see a firearm in his hand. He just threw it, the male has his hands in the air,” says an officer.

Randall McKenzie, 25, and Brandi Stewart-Sperry, 30, are charged with first-degree murder.
Lawyers presented new photos today of McKenzie after his arrest.
And in an agreed statement of facts, lawyers said a drug test showed Stewart-Sperry had a mix of fentanyl, methamphetamine and amphetamine in her system, along with other drugs when she was arrested after the murder.
Her lawyer Scott Reid suggested the drugs could have effected her behavior and thinking at the time of the murder, and a forensic toxicologist agreed.
The Crown then wrapped up the prosecution.
The trial is due to resume Wednesday afternoon when the defense starts making its case.
