Prominent attorney Greenspan laid to rest in Toronto

Canada’s most well known lawyer was laid to rest today in Toronto. Edward Greenspan represented a who’s who of the famous and infamous.

Greenspan was called to the Ontario Bar in 1970 and quickly got a reputation as a hard worker and a brilliant defence lawyer.

He represented theatre mogul Garth Drabinsky who was convicted of fraud in 2009.

He also represented media baron Conrad Black, the former publisher of The National Post.

But for every famous client, Greenspan had there were hundreds of others no one has ever heard of.

His brother Brian says he was a forceful advocate for the defence of the defenceless.

His daughter Julianna, also a lawyer, delivered the eulogy. She said her dad was fiercely funny and says her dad’s presence will never be forgotten.

“He was a defender of justice but now the defence rests.”

Greenspan passed away in his sleep on December 24th at the age of 70.
