Probe forces Hamilton city supervisors out

Five city of Hamilton supervisors have left their jobs – and more face suspensions – after an investigation into hours worked in the public works department.

This is the second round of the investigation into employees claiming false work hours. Four of the supervisors chose to retire while one resigned. Hamilton’s general manager of public works says nine other supervisors will face as much as 30 day unpaid suspensions.

In January, 29 city workers were fired without severance for not doing their jobs, making false claims for hours of work, and disposing of city asphalt that was to be used for road repairs. The city has since rehired seven of them after a union grievance.
