Princess Margaret cancer research

Canada’s largest cancer research hospital is on the cutting edge of research and is constantly making new discoveries and saving lives.

In April of 2016, Sue Bell was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. Her tumour was removed, followed by months of chemo. She credits Princess Margaret Hospital for her survival.

Dr. Phillipe Bedard is Bell’s Oncologist at the hospital. He agrees that funding through Princess Margaret’s Home Lottery has helped research tremendously.

“Princess Margaret would not be one of the top cancer research centres in the world without these programs, it really fuels research and pays for our scientists, and the infrastructure to support one of the top 5 in the world,” said Christine Lasky, Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Bell is in remission now  and goes for regular checkups, but says funding for research is crucial. “We need to keep funding the research and coming up with treatments for all these types. Already we’ve come leaps and bounds and there are so many more survivors everyday. By purchasing a ticket you are funding the research that will enable that many more survivors to keep on going,” said Bell.

Since inception, the Princess Margaret Foundation has given away 400 real estate properties and raised $386 million that goes directly into research.
